 Health and HIV situation

At the end of 2007, the cumulative number of known HIV-positive Singaporeans was 3,224, up from 2,075 in 2003. In 2006, 357 newly diagnosed HIV infection cases were recorded compared to 317 in 2005.The pre-valence of known HIV cases in the resident population (aged 15 and above) was 0.07% and for pregnant women 0.05%. The male population is most affected by the virus.

The Singapore National AIDS Control Programme includes a broad range of strategies to address HIV: public education; legislation; blood supply screening; counseling and care for people living with HIV/AIDS; contact tracing and tracking; surveillance among high risk behaviour groups; and training of medical personnel.
